Stop your car - Leaving the scene without stopping may subject you to criminal prosecution.

Leave your car as close to the scene as possible, but do not block traffic.

Give aid to the injured, if you are able. Administer first aid, if you are qualified and call an ambulance.

Turn on your hazard lights, or use road flares to preserve the scene.

Keep a disposable camera in your glove compartment - Take photographs of the scene, damage to the vehicles involved, locations where the involved vehicles and came to rest and any injuries sustained.

Call the police who will make a report of the accident. What you say can be used against you in a court of law, so consider your statements carefully. Do not discuss the accident with anyone at the scene except the police.

Seek medical attention immediately if you are injured.

If anyone involved in the accident is injured or there is more than $750.00 worth of damage you must file an accident report with DMV on Form SR-71.

Notify your insurance company as soon as possible.

Write down the names, addresses and telephone of any witnesses.
